The conversation about whether or not the movie industry has benefited from the Agya Koo TV platform that was launched with pomp and pageantry two years ago is still ongoing.

Two years into the launch of the platform, critics have questioned the relevance of an individual’s platform to a movie industry when there is no capital investment for more movies to be produced.

Industry players and movie producers have called on the government to inject capital into the dying movie industry instead of rewarding political party members with platforms that doesn’t serve the interest of the movie industry as a whole.

One person who has been very critical about the Agya Koo TV platform is CEO of Speech, Enock Agyapong.

Enock speaking exclusively to Ghanaweb, cautioned politicians not to meddle in the movie business as that has the tendency to collapse the industry.

Mr Agyapong agreed with other critics who believed that the tax payer’s money should not be wasted on just an individual for the sake of politics as this government did with the Agya Koo TV, but rather put structures in place for the industry to thrive for the benefit of all.

He said the movie industry in Ghana is private-sector driven, so it will be very unfortunate for politicians to play with it.

Enock Agyapong added that he is hopeful the Film Authority which was recently constituted will work hard to put structures in place for the movie industry to bounce back.

“It all looks like it was a payback for those who supported the campaign and it is just political, which is very bad for our industry. It is sad you know, fortunately now they have the Film Authority in place which should sort all these things out, but that was what they should have put their strength in, but for what they did initially, it was just political, it was a waste of every body’s time," he stated.
