An Accra Circuit Court hearing the case involving Eugene Ashe, aka Wisa, an artiste accused of displaying his penis on stage, has asked the prosecution to produce “material witnesses” at the next sitting.
The court said this after Mr Michael Acheampong, a media manager at Airtel Ghana has testified in the case.
Wisa, of the Ekikimi fame is being held for allegedly exposing his penis while performing at the Accra International Conference Centre on December 24, last year.
He has, however, denied a charge of gross indecent exposure and is on a GHC 8,000 bail with one surety.
Mr Acheampong who was led in evidence by Detective Inspector Judith B. Asante, told the court that although he was present at the event, he did not see Wisa expose his penis.
According to Mr Acheampong, he heard screams and shouts from the fans gathered at the concert organised by Citifm, an Accra based media house and sponsored by Airtel Ghana.
The prosecution witness admitted knowing Wisa as a public figure.
The witness explained that he and his team during the event mounted their stands in front of the auditorium hence did not see Wisa expose his penis.
According to Mr Acheampong, Airtel as an organisation did not take any action against Wisa because the event was organised by the Citifm
Answering questions under cross- examination administered by Mr Jerry Avernogbo, the defence counsel explained that the duty of Airtel was to sponsor and not to organise the event.
He explained that the duty of a sponsor was to provide money for programmes.
“I know nothing about which artiste comes first or last during the event,” he added.
Mr Acheampong maintained that he knew nothing about the penis exposure by Wisa.
He explained that Airtel did not did issue any statement over Wisa’s action because all the stories that came out on the issue did not mention Airtel.
At the last sitting of the court, the Prosecutor had told the court that on December 25, the Accra Regional Police was alerted over a nude video posted on the internet from an unknown source, in which a popular Ghanaian artiste identified as Eugene Ashe, aka Wisa Creg, intentionally exposed his penis while performing live on stage.
According to the prosecutor, Wisa was seen dancing with a female partner.
Chief Inspector Asante said the Police contacted the managers of Ashe to produce him at the Regional Police Headquarters for investigations and they did.
The prosecution said investigations into the matter disclosed that on December 24, Airtel Communications Company and Citifm, an Accra based radio station, organised an event dubbed: “December to Remember,” which included the accused as a guest artiste.
During the course of the show, the accused, while dancing with a female dancer identified as Monica Kumadeh, the artiste suddenly removed his penis out of his pair of jeans and began to caress the buttocks of the dancer.
Hearing continues on May 13.
