Contemporary gospel sensation Bra Collins believes he can influence the crave for profane songs and draw the youth nearer to Christ with his style of music having received God’s calling to evangelize.
Born Collins Gyan Oppong, the rapper who prides himself on being a ‘rap evangelist’ says there is no straightjacket way of spreading the gospel, hence his resolve to focus on winning souls through rap.
“I’m just using rap as a medium to preach. I feel we can reach the youth through rap music especially with the kind of music we hear these days on radio. 100% profanity... You hear and ask yourself why it’s being played on radio,” he said in an interview with Ghanaweb.
“My primary objective is to win souls. Salvation is a gradual process. I’m looking at that guy on the street that doesn’t even want to hear about Christianity because of what someone is doing so I just want to start with Christian rap. I want my songs to be played where you don’t expect gospel music to be played.”
Bra Collins acknowledges the challenge ahead with respect to the reception he is likely to receive but appears unperturbed as he insists he has psyched himself up and is more than ready for the task.
“It’s not gonna be easy,” he admits. “It’s actually not been easy from day one. People ask me if I’m sure I’m serious about what I want to do but there are Christians who love rap music so what do they listen to? Do they have to listen to secular music because they love rap? So I’m here for Christians that love rap music.
“I’ve done hiplife for a while so if I’ve seen something and I say I’m doing gospel rap, then it means I’m ready for it. I had the call of God on myself. My call is evangelism.”
Bra Collins is out with a single titled ‘Adom Bi’. The song which was produced by Wei Ye Oteng, features legend, Obrafour.
‘Adom Bi’ touches on how grateful the artiste is to God, for his mercies which endures forever. Bra Collins extols God, advises listeners to be thankful as the Creator will surely open more doors.
