Accra, May 2, GNA - A special May Day Quiz was organized in Accra on Sunday by the Organized labour as part of activities marking this year's May Day Celebration to enhance students knowledge on labour issues.
The University of Ghana, Legon, University of Cape Coast, Islamic University, Accra and the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) took part in the quiz. Questions were related to the activities of May Day and labour in general.
Mr Kofi Asamoah, Deputy General Secretary, in charge of operations at the Trades Union Congress (TUC), said the competition was organized in accordance with the youth policy of the TUC, which, is aimed at developing and strengthening collaboration between TUC and students in tertiary institutions.
He said the 'What Do You know Quiz" was also to sensitise students about the opportunities and challenges in the world of labour. Mr Asamoah said the programme was special because for the first time in recent history, Organized Labour planned the 2004 May Day.
He mentioned the TUC, Civil Servants Association, Ghana National Association of Teachers, Ghana Registered Nurses Association, Judicial Service Association of Ghana as well as the Ghana Federation of Labour as the organisers.
Mr Asamoah said the quiz also gave students a better chance to appreciate what the TUC and Organized labour stood for and it also gave students an insight into the operations of Trade Unions. Paul Afari Mintah from the University of Cape Coast, emerged the winner with 49 points and was given 1.5 million cedis cash as his prize. University of Ghana, Legon came second, followed by GIJ and the Islamic University College respectively.
