Quophi Okyeame is rather distorting history – Reggie Rockstone

Hiplife grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone has described Quophi Okyeame’s statement on Sarkodie distorting the history of Ghanaian artistes performing at the Apollo Theatre as ironic.

A show dubbed, History In The Making held at the Apollo Theatre in New York saw acts from Ghana, Nigeria and the USA including Lighter Tod, Jadiluc, Banky W, Bisa K.Dei, Kwaw Kese, E.L, The Compozers and Shatta Wale, with Sarkodie as the headliner.

Quophi Okyeame, a former member of the defunct music duo, Akyeame had said that the group was first to have performed at venue in 2000; not Sarkodie who had a show at the venue last Saturday.

“Akyeame Was the first Hiplife Duo to play at the Appollo Theatre to a mix crowd so huge the police came to stop the show. This was in 2000 with daddy lumber. Don't distort the history. Which history is in the making??” he posted on his Facebook timeline.

But Reggie Rockstone reacting to the remarks on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch noted that the comments were unnecessary.

He questioned Quophi’s intent and added that he was rather distorting history.

“And so what? You were first to have performed there so what? Some things are just not necessary to be said. And even if you will, check the timing because the timing can make you look bad. It makes you look jealous. This is Sarkodie’s time,” he told show host Abrantepa.

Adding: “Another thing Quophi is not telling the people is that Lumba was the headline artiste for that show and you [Akyeame] were the opening act. Sarkodie is not the opening act. He is the headliner and that is historic. So he [Quophi] shouldn’t distort history. He is rather distorting history.”

“Aside that, when you are saying the truth, we are more concerned about your intent. Quophi, what is your intent? I was disappointed. It is history for a rapper in Ghana to be the headliner,” Reggie Rockstone noted.

Quophi Okyeame on the show rebutted, saying he was not against Sarkodie.

According to him, he was setting the records straight and that was exactly what he did.

"I have nothing against Sarkodie. I'm not in his league; he is not in my league. When you read the post, I said if making history is playing at Apollo and he is doing it for the first time, then that is distortion. Akyeame and Lumba played Apollo for the first time. The intent was to correct history," he said.

"I think Sarkodie is a wonderful artiste who has done stuff that probably my generation couldn't achieve. But in my own little right, what I have achieved, I don't want anybody to trample on," Quophi Okyeame added.
