To those who suggested that Quophi Okyeame didn’t deserve his award at the just ended Radio and Television Personality Awards as Late Afternoon Show Host of the Year, the Rainbow Radio presenter says, he did better than all his contenders and so deserved the crown.
Speaking to Londona on Koforidua-based Emak FM’s ‘Entertainment Arena’ last Saturday, he said (as he rained curses on his critics) that anybody who said he didn’t deserve the award didn’t really know what they were talking about.
“Oh leave them. I don’t agree with any writer who will say I don’t deserve that award. What are they talking about? Do they know when I started radio? Way back in 97? thereabout I was in radio in Kumasi before I came to Hot FM in Accra, to Hitz FM and now to Rainbow Radio. I invoke heavenly fire to burn all those who say I don’t deserve the award. I know those people have nothing better to write and just want to use me to sell their paper,” he said.
He added that in the year under review for the award, none of his contenders did better than he did. “I know all of those in the category and know how they performed. They are good presenters but while some of them were using their platforms for unnecessary politics, going on leave and all that, I was seriously working.”
“Don’t also forget my radio station gets to abroad as well so I have a very huge fan base. People can listen to me automatically in their cars in the UK just us people listen in Ghana. So if my fans thought I performed better and they voted for me, why will anyone go about saying all these unnecessary things? Tell me, did those presenters transmit on 5000K transmitter or they invited angels to give motivational messages on their shows?” he asked.
Quophi Okyeame was nominated alongside Ike Unpredictable of Angel FM, Abeiku Santana of Okay FM, Fiifi Banson of Peace FM and Bola Ray of Joy FM in the recently held Radio and Television Personality Awards. He is the late afternoon show host of Rainbow Radio (87.5MHz) in Accra.
