The CEO of Radio and Television Personalities Awards(RTP), Prince Makay has stated categorically that the essence of award schemes are not necessarily meant for new names and faces.

This was in reaction to a question from SeanCitygh.com in an exclusive interview as to why the same faces keep on appearing in the most respected award scheme, RTP.

Mr. Makay, however, explained that it will be very difficult to look beyond the old faces for new ones especially when the latter is performing more than even the previous years.

“When you look at the records of award schemes in the world, you could see old faces especially when they’re still reigning. The committee looks out for the best among the rest . So when the old faces have not fallen and are still widening their gaps, why will you drop them? They are not meant for new names. Even in BET awards, the same faces keeps on dominating. Why are they not dropping them? You’re not to drop good personalities for new faces because of representation .”

On the issue of why winners of the RTP topmost awards are mainly personalities from Accra, Prince said those claims are false citing Bright Kankam Boadu, Joe Laka who have won awards as Best Radio Sports Show Hosts from Kumasi.

A section of Ghanaians are of the view that the winners of the RTP Awards are Accra dominance and again new faces are not introduced, always going for the old names.
