Telemark, a private media consultancy has launched the Second Radio and Television (RTV) Awards for the year 2002 in Accra. The theme for this year's award ceremony is: "Honouring The Contribution Of Radio And Television To Ghana's Social Development."
The award was established in recognition of the electronic media's immense contribution to the nation's social development. The Executive Director of Telemark, Kojo Kwakye Owusu, said the RTV awards were instituted to offer the public the opportunity to express their appreciation and also set and maintain standards in the radio and television industry.
He said as a result of criticism associated with the previous RTV awards, an independent research firm had been contracted to oversee the nomination procedure and ensure credibility of the event
"Radio and Television in Ghana have come a long way and the RTV awards is here to applaud the immense contribution that the industry has made by bringing the concepts of choice and awareness into our homes and every aspect of our lives," Mr Owusu said.
