Veteran Ghanaian actor, David Dontoh has suggested that a lot presenters on radio must be trained as actors since he believes the ethics of the profession are being abused.
According to the 'Agro Fie' host in an exclusive interview with DJ Premiere on Accra FM last weekend, he said because radio is about presentation, training radio presenters as actors will help them get more understanding of the public ethics.
"A lot of people who work on radio should be trained as actors. Because it is presentation and in presentation, there are certain principles of it.
You first have to have orientation, propper articulation, understanding of the public ethics. You don't just go and sit on radio for instance and talk anyhow.
You must actually in your mind tell yourself that I am talking to some people out there. You have to have a certain sense of decorum in your delivery. You don't speak out an unmentionable words.
Now because of technology, children listen to radio and they learn a lot. There is one whole subject area in acting called speech. How to speak such that the person listening to you does not only hear sound but hears the meaning in what you are saying and to react to it.
Many at times you listen to a lot of radio stations and people quarrel. Have you ever heard people quarrying on BBC before? It will never happen because the people there are trained on how to relate to the public out there. You have to have a very good sense of respect for your listeners. A lot of presenters give chances for people to insult on radio. It is what you do that yields such results."
David Dontoh is one of the outstanding actors and television personalities in Ghana.
He was recently in the news to have joined in the race of the Ghana Actors Guild presidency.
