Radio stations urged to use airwaves responsibly

Tamale, Jan. 5, GNA - Mr. Alhassan Imoro, Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has appealed to radio stations in Tamale to use their airwaves responsibly to promote peace and unity to ensure free and fair elections. He advised the stations to be wary of "self-seeking politicians" who may want to use them to score political points to divide the people rather than unite them.

In his New Year Message to media practitioners in the region, Mr. Imoro urged them to enter 2004 with more determination to promote unity, reconciliation and peaceful co-existence among the electorate. He commended the practitioners for being able to carry out their duties despite the state of emergency and curfew prevailing in some of the areas of Dagbon.

The Chairman called on the management of the media houses to show appreciation for the sacrifice and hard work of their representatives operating in the Northern Region by way of incentives including promotions and training opportunities.
