Rapist collapses in court

Tema, March 3, GNA- A 27-year-old rapist collapsed in dock at the Tema Circuit Court "B" when the judge remanded him into custody and ordered that the case be referred to the Greater Accra Regional Tribunal for trial.

Daniel Aboah Sarpoamoah, a fisherman whose plea was not taken on a charge of raping a 30-year-old woman without her consent, will and reappear on March 16.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court that on February 24 at about 0001 hours, Aboah went to the accused who was selling drinks at Lekporgunor near Dawa, and was asleep and had sex with her.

The woman suddenly woke up and held Aboah's male organ, and pulled it hard and pushed him away. The prosecution said the matter was reported to the police.

Careless driver fined 500,000 for jamming two cars.

A professional driver whose carelessness in driving led him to jam two cars on the Tema-Accra motorway was on Tuesday fined 500,000 cedis by the Tema Circuit Court "B". Doe Benini, 23, pleaded guilty to careless driving and failing to observe traffic and will go to jail for five months if he fails to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alice Gyamfi told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on January 21, 2004, at 1430 hours Doe was driving a Benz bus on the motorway.

She said on reaching a spot at the Abattoir, Doe failed to observe traffic ahead of him and therefore, run into the rear of an Opel Kadett car, which also hit the booth of another car causing considerable damage to the two cars.
