Rapperholic concert organizers dragged to court

After a prosperous event organized in Tamale on April 20, 2013 for Sarkodie’s ‘Rapperholic Concert’, organizers of the show have been dragged to court for failing to pay some of the local artistes who performed at the show.

Adams Nuhu reports that all efforts made by the management of these artistes to receive their required amount of money charged has proved futile which has resulted to them taking the matter to court. It was big news for the people of Tamale as adverts rolled on radio stations that Ghana’s one and only B.E.T award winner Sarkodie Rapperholic train will be making a stop in Tamale on April 20, 2013.

Other artiste who supported Sarkodie included Obrafour, Efya, Sherifatu Gunu and Mohammed plus host of other home based artiste in Tamale, who undoubtedly did not fail as they performed to the admiration of party raves who attended the concert through the power of the Ghc 10 ordinary or Ghc 20 VIP ticket.

Even though Sarkodie came on stage after 2am, all in all the event was recorded as one of the best to have happened in Tamale with estimated attendance of between 5000-6000 people.

However organizers of the concert have been drag to court by Dream Time Records, a record label based in Tamale that manages the artiste S.K.Y aka De Tamale Boy, who many music loving people in the North passionately describes as ‘the Sarkodie of Tamale’ because of his punch lines and how he plays with words on every beat that comes his way. It was not surprising as he rocked the stage he shared with Sarkodie.

According to the CEO of the record label, DJ Ojah who doubles as a sound engineer said, “the matter has been taken to court because the organizers have refused to pay our artiste what is due him, we made frantic efforts to get the money and sometimes they don’t even pick our calls. It was later one of them sent me a text that an amount (which is far below the amount agreed on) have been enveloped and I should come to his place for it, we refused that money and took the matter to court for redress since they said we should do whatever we want to do, and that what they have is what they are offering”, he added.

Information has it that it is not only S.K.Y who is facing such problem, couple of other artiste who performed have not also been paid but they have not opted for legal redress for reasons best known to them.

The first hearing will be on Monday May 6, 2013 at the Tamale Circuit court.
