Model and activist GlennSamm has revealed the trauma he endured during what he described as a "kidnapping" by the Ghana Police Service following the #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protest, which aimed to raise awareness about illegal mining (galamsey).

In an interview on Hitz FM, GlennSamm shared details of his 16 days in police custody, shedding light on the harsh conditions he faced.

Below are four key revelations from his interview:

Overcrowded Cell at Teshie Police Station

GlennSamm disclosed that he was detained at the Teshie Police Station, where 27 people were held in a single, overcrowded cell with poor sanitation.

“A lot happened at the Teshie Police Station. The cell was tiny, and there were about 27 of us crammed into it. There was no ventilation, and it was so crowded that you could only get fresh air by sticking your head into a small space,” he explained.

He added, “I arrived at the Teshie Police Station around 11 AM and had to stand for 24 hours. I ended up with a muscle pull because of that.”

Paid ¢300 for Cell Fee

GlennSamm also revealed that he was required to pay a cell fee of ¢300 to other inmates. He explained that this money was used to buy basic necessities like toiletries.

“When I got there, I had to pay ¢300 to the inmates, and they used that money to buy soap and other toiletries. I wasn’t even able to bathe, and the heat in the cell was unbearable,” he added.

Went Without Food for 48 Hours

The model shared that he went without food for the first 48 hours in custody due to a lack of money and his family's unawareness of his whereabouts. He had to survive on water.

“The food in there was terrible, and I’m very cautious about what I eat. So I didn’t eat for the first 48 hours. I was out of cash, and my family didn’t know where I was, so they couldn’t bring me any food,” GlennSamm recounted.

Charged with Six Offenses

During his court proceedings, GlennSamm was charged with six offenses. He noted that when the prosecutor appeared in court, they hadn’t even served the defense lawyers with any documents.

“They gave the lawyers five minutes, and after everything, the prosecutor said they were tired of us and asked us to serve two weeks,” he narrated.
