Robber trapped in pit latrine

Aflao, Jan 21, GNA- Dominic Lawson, 28, who the police described as "a noted criminal" at Aflao fled from a group of people who were pursuing him last Friday and got trapped in a pit latrine.

He was retrieved, handed over to the Aflao Police but fell sick and was taken to Aflao District Hospital and died last Sunday.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Baba Moro, Aflao District Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in the morning of last Friday, a trader, Gariba Seidu, from Akatsi arrived at Aflao and changed some cedis into 400,000 CFA Francs.

The deceased and two others now at large trailed Seidu to the outskirts of Fiokope about six kilometres from Aflao along the Ghana-Togo border and struggled with him in an attempt to rob him of the money.

ASP Moro said one of the robbers shot Seidu and took the money. He raised an alarm for assistance and neighbours around pursued the robbers and in the process Lawson fell into the pit latrine. The Crime Officer said a locally manufactured pistol and four cartridges were found on the deceased.

Seidu is on admission at the Aflao District Hospital.
