Ghanaian Reggae act, Rocky Dawuni, will on January 9, play a special concert in New York.
A Cumbancha/Mundial Montreal showcase event to be held at the DROM, will feature many other exceptional international talents (Daby Toure / Mauritania, Odessa/Havana, Elizabeth Shepherd, Aurelio, Boogat, Nation Beat’s Carnival Caravan, Nomadic Massive).
Influenced by the soulful beats of Fela Kuti, the positive messages of Bob Marley and the infectious, sing-along anthems of Michael Franti, K’naan and Matisyahu, Dawuni's songs straddle the musical boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the US to create a universally appealing sound that unites generations and cultures.
His sixth album, Branches of the Same Tree, will be released in March 2015.
The video for the first single from the new album “African Thriller” has been circling the globe and creating much heat.
