Rocky Dawuni, the Grammy-nominated “Afro Roots” maestro, has shared the lead single off his new album, “Beats of Zion” (March 2019).

The self-produced record, a triumphant anthem, leads his 13-track 7th album, which he describes as closest to home among all his projects. The album also features Ghanaian stars Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Wiyaala.

A colourful accompanying clip, dripping with culture and spirit, was shot on the streets of the historic town that is Jamestown-Accra. It was directed by Lex McCarthy.

“Beats of Zion” is released under Rocky Dawuni Music BMI/ AQUARIAN Records. It follows “Branches of the Same Tree,” a 2016 Grammy-nominated project.

On the prospects of “Beats of Zion” earning a Grammy nomination, Dawuni submits that he is confident of the quality of the project to gain notice from the academy again, though he stresses that his focus is on the work and what it represents:

“It’s an album that I believe has every element to be nominated for a Grammy,” he told ENews in a recent interview, pointing out however, that that it is key to “focus on the work rather than the awards, because it’s through the resonance of the work around the world that it’s going to pique the ears of voting members around the world.”

Dawuni, 50, was recently designated a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Africa. An ardent social activist, Dawuni has, over his career, also been associated with Product (RED), ONE, UNICEF, The Carter Center, Clean Cooking Alliance and the United Nations Foundation.
