The issue of musicians in Ghana not receiving favourable sums as royalties remains an ongoing problem in need of a permanent solution.
The music duo, Keche, has also entered the fight for royalties, stating that despite the popular tracks they have delighted Ghanaians with, they have never received GHC500 as royalties from the various music associations.
Comparing their situation to that of the country's top artists like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Sarkodie, they mentioned that even they cannot honestly claim to have received GHC10,000 or GHC20,000 as royalties.
“No musician can claim to have received GHC20,000 as royalties. So, we do not know what is happening. People attend the meetings, and our managers also attend, but nothing changes after the discussions. Why should we leave our jobs, which provide for us, to attend a meeting that leads nowhere? Have you met any artists who have said they earned GHC10,000 as royalties? Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy have never been paid GHC10,000 as royalties, and it's very disappointing. I get emotional every time I talk about this.”
The music group expressed their frustrations in an interview with Shobiztv, which was shared on Instagram.
They questioned the operations of GHAMRO and MUSIGA and how the same issue has been discussed at meetings, but nothing has changed.
“I don't understand what MUSIGA and GHAMRO are doing. For many years, Keche, despite our hit songs, has never received GHC500.00, so why should I attend their meetings?” they added.
