Daily Post intelligence has established that contrary to the perception that has been created in the minds of Ghanaians that the Minister for Information, Zita Okaikoi, is not up to her task, she is in fact one of the most hardworking, efficient and dynamic Ministers of the Mills Administration!
This may come as a surprise to many people after being led to believe otherwise but in-depth behind the scene investigations by this paper has revealed that Zita has been on top of her job together with her two deputies but have not been able to deliver in a few cases because she is constantly being undermined by some government appointees, especially some Ministers of State and MPs.
According to our intelligence, the Information Minister has not been receiving the needed co-operation from some colleague Ministers who have nonchalantly failed to keep her abreast with activities their Ministries are engaged in even though it is the Information Minister who the general public, especially the media, turn to for information and explanation about government business.
What is even more shocking is the fact that she has consistently been kept in the dark about many major activities carried out by the President, making it impossible for her to adequately get the public to understand exactly what the President is doing at a particular time.
Daily Post investigations, for example, discovered that neither the Minister nor any of his two deputies were on the President’s trip to the Commonwealth Summit in Trinidad & Tobago recently. What is more, there was no official photographer from the Information Services Department, ISD, which is under Zita, on the trip to capture memorable shots of the President. As a result, the Minister and his two deputies cannot explain adequately to Ghanaians what the trip was about and what benefit the nation was going to derive from it.
What’s more, the Ministry has not got any pictures of the President In Trinidad & Tobago for its archives!
Yet another example of how Zita is being sabotaged by some within the government is the refusal by Hon. Fritz Baffour to be present at the first meeting of the Board of the National Media Commission, NMC.
After being appointed as one of the President’s two representatives to the Board, Hon. Baffour, MP for Ablekuma South chose to stay away from the maiden meeting of the Board though he was very much aware that the Chairman of the Board was going to be elected at that meeting.
His absence did not only cost the NDC government with the election of an NPP apparatchik, Kabral Blay-Amihere, as Board Chairman but was a stab in the back of Zita who had worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that the NPP does not hijack the NMC Board.
These are but a few cases of how the Minister is being undermined, yet being told by some of these same people who are undermining her to deliver!
