Samira Yakubu excited about her ZAFAA win

costumier who doubles as the manager of the multiple-award winning actress Jackie Appiah recently added another trophy to her mantelpiece when she picked up the nod for Best Costumier at the Zulu African Film Academy Awards (ZAFAA) held in the United Kingdom.

Samira beat off fierce competition from Nigeria and elsewhere to win the award on the wings of the movie ‘Queen’s Pride’, a Silverline production. Ghana grabbed four other awards including Best Director, Best Sound and Best Story for the movie ‘Somewhere In Africa’ whilst TV Africa received honours in the Best West African TV category.

The indefatigable costumier has expressed her gratitude to the Almighty Allah and all who have played and continue to play important roles in her career especially Jackie Appiah and Hajia of Silverline Productions who believed in her capabilities as a costumier and gave her that role in the ‘Queen’s Pride’.

According to her though there were a few challenges during the shooting of the movie which won her the award, she was able to surmount all due to the understanding and co-operation from both cast and crew especially Kalsoum Sinare and the director. “Although some of the actors were a bit hesitant when I insisted on certain costumes during the shoot, I was able to convince them to see reason. And I am very happy that effort eventually paid of culminating in this award which I dedicate to all who worked on the movie.”

“Although I was very optimistic when my name came up as a nominee, I knew success was not going to come on a silver platter since I was competing with the very best on the continent. I am therefore happy to have emerged as the eventual winner for that category,” she adds.

Samira said winning the award itself comes with great challenges since she has to work extra hard to justify the trust and confidence reposed in her not only by the ZAFAA organizers but all her numerous fans and admirers across the world who voted for her. The costumier who has done several works not only in Ghana but several other African countries especially Nigeria is expected to fly to Gambia next week to work on two new movies.http://www.ameyawdebrah.com/
