Rapper, Sarkodie made a smart move during the National Youth Achievers Awards last Thursday when he combined the opportune moment of receiving an award and performing in front of the President of Ghana, to ask for better government policies that will guide the Ghanaian music industry and assure musicians of reaping the benefits of their craft.
Sarkodie received an award on the night for Achievement in Music and later came back on stage to perform with Sherifa Gunu. After his performance with Sherifa, the rapper grabbed the opportunity to deliver a message to President Mahama before moving on to perform other songs.
He said that traveling around the world had opened his eyes wide on the policies that support his colleague musicians abroad.
He therefore suggested that there should be policies that would protect the works of Ghanaian musicians so that musician will be able to generate revenues from their works over a period. He added that his children should be able to get 3 square meals from the songs he hits he has made so far. “All these boil down to policies the government will put in place to support the Art”, he explained.
