Sarkodie’s Claim A Farce

A GROUP of showbiz personalities have condemned the self acclaimed Ghana’s fastest rapper, Sarkodie, for saying that more people listen to him than the president of Ghana.

According to them, Sarkodie is only a noise-making artiste who has achieved nothing as far as showbiz is concerned.

They were of the view that Sarkodie cannot compare himself to the likes of Kojo Antwi, Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong, Dr Paa Bobo, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and a host of others who have not come out to say that people listen to them more than the president.

“Is it because of the little award he won at the music awards recently? He is hallucinating because his so-called music has not even crossed the borders of Ghana.

And how can he compare himself with the first gentleman of the country? The guy is clearly daydreaming. Even when it comes to stagecraft, he cannot compare himself to talented artistes like Sidney, Tinny, Praye, VIP and a host of others” one of them stressed.

According to Peacefmonline.com, Sarkodie made this statement at the African Regent Hotel on Friday May 21, 2010 during the press launch of the Vodafone 020 Live Concert.

Peacefmonline.com quoted Sarkodie saying “You know what time it is. I mean people listen to me much more than the president himself because it is Sarkodie everywhere you go. So I think I am the right person to speak to Ghanaians.”

A section of music fans who also spoke to BEATWAVES in separate interviews stated that only a handful of Ghanaians listen to Sarkodie because all the lyrics in his songs are meaningless.

They declared that Sarkodie should keep his mouth shut since he has contributed nothing towards the progress of the Ghanaian music industry.

Although Sarkodie won five awards, Discovery, Best Rapper, Best Hip life/Hip pop Artiste and Album of the Year awards, and was also adjudged Best Artiste of the Year at this year’s Ghana Music Awards, many music fans think he does not deserve some of the awards.
