Tema, May 06, GNA - A 32-year-old seamstress at Ashaiman Taifa, who used a cutlass to inflict deep cuts on another seamstress has been sentenced to a fine of 3.5 million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court "A". Joyce Frimpong pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully and intentionally causing harm and will go to jail for four years if she fails to pay the fine.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on November 26, 2003, Joyce without any provocation started casting insinuations against a co-tenant, Victoria Amponsah that her daughter is a witch. She said the following day, at about 3 p.m., Joyce started the previous utterances again, and this forced Victoria to go and report the matter to the landlord.
When Victoria returned and sitting in her porch, Joyce attacked her from behind with a cutlass and inflicted deep cuts on her left arm. The prosecution said Victoria made a report to the Ashaiman police and a medical form was issued to her to attend hospital where she was treated and discharged and Joyce was later arrested.
