Aflao, April 8, GNA - Huddasi Zomagba, 70, a Benin national resident in Aflao was on Wednesday jailed 15 years by an Aflao Circuit Court for defiling an 11-year old daughter of his compatriot.
Zomagba, who pleaded guilty, reportedly stated in his caution statement to the police that the victim did not bleed during or after the act, suggesting that she that was not her first sex. The court presided over by Mr Godwin Kwasi-Kumah, ordered that Zomagba, be deported after serving the sentence.
Mr Kwasi-Kumah said though Zomagba was advanced in age, he had to slap the sentence on him to serve as deterrence to others. Mr Baba Moro, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), prosecuting, told the Court that the accused was a close friend to the victim's divorced parents, who are also Benin nationals resident at Aflao. He said on March 14, this year, the victim left her father's house, where she was living, to visit her mother in another suburb of Aflao, when Zomagba accosted her, and requested her to buy him iced water.
Mr Moro said Zomagba locked her up when she returned with the water and forcibly had sex with her. He reportedly warned the girl not to disclose the ordeal. However, the victim exposed Zomagba when interrogated by her parents after a tip off.
