Charterhouse, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards cannot absolve itself of blame for circumstances leading to the brawl between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, says Ghanaian artiste, Sarkodie.

In a series of tweets, the latter called out the events organizing firm for placing blame on the artistes involved in the incident at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards without mentioning their liabilities.

The organizers have indefinitely banned Wale and Stonebwoy from the awards and asked them to return the plaques they won for awards on the night.

“We can condemn our brothers on their acts but we can’t rule out the root cause that provided that environment for the unfortunate incident… Charterhouse can’t leave all blame on the artistes. NO!!” reads one of the tweets by Sarkodie.

Background

Stonebwoy pulled out a gun on stage minutes before he was supposed to make a speech for his record win at the Ghana Music Awards.

The announcement that he had won the “Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ category for the fifth consecutive time was met with displeasure by Shatta Wale.

Stonebwoy apologized on stage, and later released a press statement apologizing for “the part” his conduct played in the incident.

The event was held inside a newly constructed dome close to the Accra International Conference Centre.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge of offensive conduct to breaches of the peace on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

Stonebwoy was also charged with an additional count of display of a weapon in a public place without permission. The charges were read to the artistes at the Agyebeng Court.

They were granted bail of 50, 000 Cedis each with one surety, and cautioned to be of good behaviour during the duration of the case.

The case has been adjourned to June 20, 2019.
