Shatta Wale is not a smart artiste - Socrate Sarfo

Controversial filmmaker, Socrates Sarfo says dancehall act, Shatta Wale is not a smart artiste.

According to him, Shatta is being “stupid” for seemingly concentrating on making hit songs instead of claiming royalties from his creative works from the Ghana Music Right Owners (GHAMRO).

He believes the chart-topping artiste would demand royalties if he were smart.

“When I look at artistes who have featured prominently on the chart – Bisa Kdie, Shatta Wale. By thoughts, someone like Shatta Wale, I will say is not a smart artiste. Shatta Wale is not smart; he is being stupid as an artiste. He is a very good musician, he does good music just to entertain his fans but he is letting himself down and I wish he will be smart about it,” he said on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review on Saturday.

Socrates has observed that Shatta Wale only takes delight in releasing songs and getting gigs.

“How much comes to Shatta Wale’s pocket out of airplays? Elsewhere, if your song hits on a chart like this, it’s money. How many shows has Shatta Wale played in a month? GHAMRO takes money per show in Ghana. How much royalties has he received? If he is smart, he will be collecting royalties out of these,” the ‘Hot Fork’ producer noted.

“He gets nothing out of it. And I think he enjoys the fan of just doing the songs, wearing boxer shots in the night and going to his studio and just doing the songs. What is preventing him from collecting it?” Socrates queried.

The Chief Executive Officer of Movie Africa Productions also chided other artistes who fall in the same category as Shatta Wale.

“What I’m saying about Shatta Wale, I would want some of these artistes too if they are smart like Sarkodie, Samini. They should pick Shatta Wale’s picture, put it close to the mirror and stand in front of the mirror, judge themselves by Shatta Wale’s description I’m giving him and see if they are not the same,” he noted.

Shatta Wale’s tracks, Kakai and Hol it have been topping charts since they were released in the last quarter of the year.
