Sneak Peek into DStv April lineup

DStv viewers across Africa can tune in to exciting viewing in April from music, to movies, documatries, series, lifestyle and more. Here is a peek into what is lined up for the coming month!

The Dilemma: Since college, confirmed bachelor Ronny and happily married Nick have been through thick and thin. Now partners in an auto design firm, the two pals are vying to land a dream project that would launch their company. Ronny’s girlfriend, Beth, and Nick’s wife, Geneva, are by their sides. But Ronny’s world is turned upside down when he inadvertently sees Geneva out with another man and makes it his mission to get answers. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net West on Sunday 1 April at 22:00 CAT to watch Vince Vaughn, Kevin James and Winona Ryder performing in this film.

Cars 2: Star racecar Lightning McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater take their friendship to exciting new places in Cars 2 when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net West on Sunday 8 April at 22:00 CAT to watch, and find out how the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile and the stunning spy-in-training Holley Shiftwell.

Nicki Minaj Night: Nicki Minaj is currently a global phenomenon. Even before her first official release, her mixtapes were circulating and causing a frenzy with the youth around the world. Since her debut album dropped she has gone from strength to strength and as a part of the Young Money Cash Money Billionaires, they are taking over the hip hop scene in a huge way. Nicki has featured on more than 15 songs and has 8 videos of her own from her first album. DStv audiences can tune into MTV Base on Tuesday 3 April to watch: Select 10: ft Nicki Minaj at 18:30 CAT; Nicki Minaj: My Time Now at 19:30 CAT; Nicki Minaj Top 10 Fierce Females at 20:30 CAT; and Top 10 Nicki Minaj at 21: 30 CAT.

The Real Housewives of Orange County V: The series focuses on the private lives of the privileged residents of a Southern California elite community. Offering a fly-on-the-wall view of the day-to-day existence of the truly decadent and extravagantly casual, this addictive docudrama is a real life soap opera starring the tanned, bleached, and fabulous ladies of Orange County. Watch it on Sunday 1 April at 17:20 West and on Sunday 8 April at 16:05 CAT East.

Khloe & Lamar (Season 2): They have been married for over a year and loving it, now Khloe and Lamar Odom return to the screen with the second instalment of their reality series which sees them take on married life challenges head-on. The season also sees the couple move to a new town after Lamar’s gets signed by a team outside LA, away from his wife’s Kardashian clan. Watch how they go through this transitional period in their lives and make these changes work out for them when the show premieres on Sunday 1 April at 21:00 CAT.

Ice Loves Coco (Season2): Former rap artist and actor Ice-T and his model bride Coco are also back with the second season of Ice Loves Coco which premieres on Sunday 1 April at 21:30 CAT. This season the lovebirds are talking about having a baby and they start searching for a bigger home for their planned family expansion. Viewers will also get to an inside look at how this one-of-a-kind relationship got to be the never-ending honeymoon that it seems to be when E! screens True Hollywood Story – Ice-T & Coco after the first episode of the second season, at 21:00 CAT.

The Color Purple: Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, The Color Purple spans the years 1909 to 1949. It is centred on the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), a tragic Southern black woman who is pregnant with her father’s child at the age of 14; and lives a life of servitude to her brutal husband, sharecropper Albert (Danny Glover). DStv audiences can tune into TCM on Mon day 2 April at 23:30 CAT to watch this Steven Spielberg film, which was nominated for 11 Oscars and co-produced by Quincy Jones, who also wrote the score.

Enter the Dragon: The story stars Bruce Lee as a martial-arts expert determined to help capture a bad guy whose gang was responsible for his sister’s death. This villain is based in a fortified island manned by a team of crack martial artists, who also host a fight competition. He uses his skills to enter the contest and then tries to chop, kick, and otherwise fight his way into the dealer’s headquarter. DStv audiences can tune into TCM on Saturday 7 April at 22:30 to watch the film that made Bruce Lee an international star; and is an extravaganza of showdowns, featuring masterly fighting by Lee in a wide variety of martial arts styles. This movie has one of the ‘baddest’ fight scenes ever, not-to-be missed if you’ve never watched it. Enter the Dragon was filmed at the peak of the legend’s career. Action and adventure in one of the most famous Kung-Fu films of all time.

Mr Bean: Rowan Atkinson stars as Mr Bean in the hit comedy series created by Rowan Atkinson, Robin Driscoll, Richard Curtis and Ben Elton. DStv audiences can tune into BBC Entertainment from Tuesday 3 April at 20:35 CAT to watch Mr Bean – a selfish, sometimes ingenious character who frequently gets into hilarious situations due to his various schemes and contrivances, with his best friend, Teddie, and his dependable Mini. The series sees the unfortunate buffoon attempt to cheat his way through an exam, track down a thief who stole his camera, acquire a baby during a visit to the fun fair, and treat himself to a weekend at a hotel only to find himself competing with another guest for the best service.

Prison Wives: Prison Wives is a captivating new series that profiles men and women who have fallen in love, despite the fact that one spouse is serving time behind bars. The premiere series shares the stories of the families where love overcomes the constraints of life behind bars and showcases how one spouse’s imprisonment impacts the relationship. DStv audiences can tune in to Zone Reality from Wednesday 4 April at 21:00 CAT to watch as tales of crime and punishment, and love and redemption that will keep you on the edge of your seat as well as making your head spin with twists.

Supersize vs Superskinny Kids: Supersize vs Superskinny is back with a campaign focusing on saving children’s lives. For the first time ever the nation’s over and underweight kids and the parents who feed them are being tackled. Shocking statistics show that the UK has Europe’s highest number of obese kids – one child in every six – and at the opposite end of the scale, the number of children with anorexia has almost doubled in the last decade. DStv audiences can tune into BBC Lifestyle from Sunday 1 April at 17:00 CAT to watch Dr Christian Jessen and dietician Ursula Philpot push four families to the absolute limit, delivering lifesaving nutritional advice as they confront the truth about their terrible diets in the feeding clinic to try and make them see the damage they are doing to their young bodies. But will their advice make any difference?

50 First Dates: This sweet, endearing movie explores the nature of true love, commitment and sacrifice. Drew Barrymore plays a young woman with short-term memory loss who relives the same day over every day, much like Groundhog Day, except that each morning she wakes up with a mental slate that’s been wiped clean of the previous day’s happenings. Adam Sandler plays Henry, a vet at an oceanarium in Hawaii who’s a serial “first dater”, going out with and dumping pretty tourists, until he meets Lucy in a diner. But the next day, she looks right through him, as if she’s never seen him before. The movie scooped a Kids’ Choice Award and Teen Choice Award for Sandler, as well as an MTV Award and a People’s Choice Award for best on-screen team/chemistry (Barrymore and Sandler). Directed by Peter Segal (2004) Watch it on Wednesday 4 April at 20:30 CAT.

Jerseylicious: It’s never business as usual when it comes to teased hair, tight-fitting animal prints and now, competing salons on the season four premiere of Jerseylicious. DStv audiences can tune into Style every Tuesday from 3 April at 22:10 CAT to watch how the sassiness starts with Olivia, Tracy and Gigi finding themselves caught in the middle of Gayle and Anthony’s sensational salon turf war; and Anthony and his new business partner, Cathy Giove, clashing over contrasting creative visions for their joint venture and Gayle stepping up her marketing plans to corner the market before Anthony’s salon cuts into her business. While the opening date for Anthony’s salon continues to be pushed, Tracy and Gigi are worried about their lack of employment. Gigi thinks they should beg Gayle for their old jobs, but Tracy is ready to sell prized possessions, like her big earrings, to make ends meet.

Golf – The PGA Tour: The PGA Tour continues in April with the final round of the Shell Houston Open, a popular stop on the PGA Tour. Last year saw Phil Mickelson defeat Scott Verplank to take his first victory since winning his third Masters in April 2010. Joining Mickelson and a seemingly re-energised Tiger Woods as players to watch as the season progresses are defending FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas and other US players led by Steve Stricker and Mark Wilson, plus a growing list of international talents who have shown their might of late: England’s Luke Donald, who finished 2011 as No. 1 in the world, and countryman Lee Westwood, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, and defending Masters champion Charl Schwartzel of South Africa. DStv audiences can tune into ESPN on 1 April at 19:00 CAT to watch.

Secret Access: The Vatican: Secret Access: The Vatican provides a revealing look at the inner workings of the Vatican, from the secret archives to the Swiss guards, as well as some of the treasures locked inside. See what is housed under the 110-acre site as an on-going excavation of an ancient cemetery that the Vatican was built upon uncovers priceless artefacts, including the bones of St. Peter himself. DStv audiences can tune into History at Sunday 8 April at 18:45 CAT to go inside the Vatican Secret Archives – a collection of rooms and libraries containing some of history’s priceless documents. And get to know Vatican security: the top-of-the-line procedures and practices utilised by a combination of Swiss Guards (elite guards to the Pope), Vatican police, and Italian police that keep the Pope and Vatican safe.
