Movie producer, Socrate Safo has rendered an unqualified apology to the family of Nii Odoi Mensah for putting out how much it will cost to bring back the late actor’s body home without consulting them.

The family had expressed disappointment in the filmmaker for going public that it will cost $68,000 to transport the remains from China, where the actor died.

“If you get an information, come to us, furnish us with the information and ask of how we intend dealing with it. If you don’t go about it this way but say it on radio, are you a good friend? It’s not fair. We are considering how to get his body back home. If we are unable to and he has to be cremated, we will take a collective decision. Going about and spreading this shows that you didn’t love him. If I set my eyes on him…” head of the family, Nii Kwa, told Multimedia’s Kwaku Adu Kumi.

He added that neither has an actor nor a producer visited them after the death of the former President of Ghana Actors Guild.

Socrate who spoke to KMJ on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz on Wednesday apologised to the family for any inconvenience his actions may have caused.

“If they are angry at me for putting out such an information, I’m not a family member, I apologise. They have not made me the spokesperson; I spoke as a friend. I understand them. I apologise,” he noted.

When asked why he has not been to the house a week after the death of Nii Odoi Mensah, Socrate said, “He is part of ARSOG [Audio-Visual Rights Society of Ghana], we have to go there as a body. As a board, we met yesterday to decide on when to go. It wouldn’t be prudent for me to have gone as an individual.”

Nii Odoi Mensah passed on in China where he was undergoing kidney treatment.
