On October 16, 2024, the Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, engaged members of Ghana’s arts and tourism industry in an exclusive event at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The event, titled “Evening Encounter with the Arts and Tourism Fraternity,” aimed to foster dialogue and strengthen the relationship between the creative arts sector and the tourism industry.

The night, however, was filled with some interesting events which left smiles on the faces of attendees, netizens, and the Vice President himself.

Aside from the fun, pertinent questions were raised about Bawumia’s plans for the creative arts industry.

Here are some interesting events that transpired:

Broda Sammy’s speech

Gospel artiste Broda Sammy cracked the attendees up when he posed a question to the NPP flagbearer in English.

He managed to switch from Twi to English a number of times and the manner in which he expressed himself was extremely hilarious.

In his quest to request a stable pension scheme for retiring actors and musicians, Broda Sammy asked, "Let me speak English, me di33 i know you are coming to power. But I want to ask what will your office do for veterans or creative when they reach a certain age and can't work any longer in the creative industry?".

In response, Dr. Bawumia assured that if elected, he would work with MUSIGA and other unions to establish a pension system for industry players, supported by digital platforms to generate revenue.

Shatta Wale vs Bawumia:

While other creatives discussed welfare and pension schemes, Shatta Wale focused on the streets and ghetto youth.

After sharing that he initially did not want to attend the engagement, the dancehall artiste shared his personal journey from the ghetto and asked about the government's plans for these marginalised groups.

In response, Dr. Bawumia highlighted his commitment to helping the needy, mentioning his roles with some NGOs.

He assured that his initiatives, including digitalization, aims to benefit everyone, especially those struggling on the streets.

Akua Donkor’s running mate’s submission

Hiplife artiste cum Vice-Presidential candidate for Akua Donkor's ‘Ghana Freedom Party’, Roman Father, turned heads when he humorously pleaded with Dr. Bawumia not to forget him if the NPP bagged the presidential seat.

Raining cash

After the meet-up, when all was said and done, Shatta Wale didn’t disappoint as he was spotted spraying cash on his fans as he drove off in a yellow sports car.

Shatta Wale and Samini:

The two dancehall musicians, who have had a long-standing rivalry, were spotted together vibing and beaming with smiles at the event.

Samini, during his submission, even made references to Shatta Wale a few times and vice versa.

The relationship between the two was somewhat a relief to netizens who had witnessed the rocky relationship between them over the years.
