This year’s 15th edition of the Ghana Yosakoi Japan festival ended last Saturday at the Mensvic hotel with great success.

The event was graced by his Excellency the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana Mr. Kaoru Yoshimura and the Japanese community chairman Mr. Tamura Yoshihiko.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Yoshimura was very happy to mention that the friendship between the two countries had grown wider through Yosakoi.

The ceremony saw numerous performances from various schools that did the Yosakoi dance. Some of the schools who participated in the Yosakoi contest were St. Peters Senior High School, Nkwatia, St Roses Senior High School, Akwatia, St Martin’s SHS, Nsawam, Mary Star of the Sea school, Kasoa, and Akwaaba kindergarten kids based in Accra.

St Roses Senior High school won the Yosakoi dance competition this year and received an award from the Ambassador.

Other entertaining scenes from the festival were a jazz performance from Ghanaian saxophonist-Zion Haruna who thrilled the crowd with three songs. Visiting Japan Yosakoi Ren also had their debut with four stage dance performances.

The Yosakoi festival seeks to showcase the rich traditional culture of the Japanese and how similar it is to that of Ghana.
