One of Ghana’s most celebrated female artistes, who is known in musical circles as Stella Dugan and who now wants to be known and called as Stella Aba Seal has dropped her intention to take her musical career to the international level.
Aba Seal was optimistic that the time has now come for her to hit the international scene, given the fact that she had already paid her dues to the local music scene.
“I believe the time has come for me to launch into another phase of my career, and that is look out to the international scene like other top African artistes had done”, she said.
Speaking in an interview with the Chronicle On Saturday, the pretty songstress stressed that even though she had the idea of going international a couple of years ago, she was waiting for the opportunity time to do so.
According to her, she already started writing songs specifically for that purpose. She said once everything was ready, she would travel to South Africa, where she would do the recording.
She mentioned South Africa because according to her, the country has very good recording studios from where she would get the kind of sound suitable for her new project.
Asked whether she was not getting too old to now think of such uphill task, Stella Aba Seal said she gets surprised when people talk like that, because the likes of Tina Turner, Lionel Richie among others who are 55 years and above still mount platforms and do live performances, to the admiration of their audiences.
Stella Aba Seal announced her presence on the local music scene in 1990 when she released her first album, an all English album: ‘You’re In My Heart’.
The following year, she recorded her second album ‘Daadaa Nyinara’, which was a huge success. The album was so successful and apart from the financial gains, it also won the then Entertainment Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ECRAG) award and the Best Gospel Album of the Year.
Stella was also adjudged Singer of the Year by Rex Image Associates, then an entertainment outfit. She carried also the Distinguished Female Personality and Inspirational Voice of the Year Awards in her stride.
Stella has a number of albums to her credit, including ‘Ahenmanmu’, ‘Okura Yeemu’, ‘Ontonko’ with the hit song ‘Gyem Taataa’ and King of Kings, and Oye Onyame, and recently, Okyeso Nyame.
