Stonebwoy's fans are very 'gullible', I never discredited him - Sally Mann responds to critics

Controversial media personality and entertainment pundit Sally Mann has responded to fans of Dancehall artist Stonebwoy regarding comments she made about him and Shatta Wale.

Mann's comments caused controversy when she revealed that the entertainment industry was favouring Stonebwoy over Shatta Wale.

She criticised Shatta Wale for disrespecting media personalities and explained that they were supporting Stonebwoy, who they believe deserves a Grammy push.

However, some Stonebwoy fans interpreted her comments as suggesting that Stonebwoy's achievements were not earned on merit but were the result of a deliberate promotional effort by the media.

In an interview with Hitz FM on November 22, 2024, Sally Mann described the critics as "gullible" and clarified that her remarks were not meant to discredit Stonebwoy's achievements.

“They are insulting themselves, those BHIM fans are very gullible. I did an eight-minute piece on it. When somebody picks just a part and you run with it, it means there's something wrong with your head. In the piece that I did, I never discredited what Stonebwoy had done. What I said was that he is not my untouchable. However, he's doing something fantastic. So I feel we should push him. So I never discredited what he's done."

“All that I said was that because he's doing good, some of us have taken it upon ourselves that we will push him because the other guy, Shatta Wale, has been insulting the traditional media. So, I won't go to school, come and sit on the traditional media and promote somebody that disrespects where I eat from,” she said.

Mann also emphasised the need for Ghanaians to set agendas to elevate their artists on the global stage and urged Stonebwoy's fans to watch the full video to understand her perspective.

“Mind you, agenda setting, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Ghanaians, we don't set an agenda. That's why our artists are wherever they are. I was shocked. What is wrong with Stonebwoy’s fans?

“I thought that now with the way that we are going to the Grammys and all of that, they are polished, so they will understand, but why go back to the way that we knew them to be? We need them to be people that understand things. If they had watched the video, they would have better understood where I was coming from,” she clarified.

What happened?

Sally Mann had criticised Stonebwoy over his statement that a remix of his new ‘Jejereje’ song with hiplife artist Skrewfaze would not be commercially beneficial for him.

The BHIM Nation president has faced backlash for what some people perceive as unnecessary comments and a habit of overhyping himself in foreign interviews.

In a recent interview on the streets of London, Stonebwoy claimed that some Ghanaians often mistake him for a foreigner, particularly a Jamaican.

He also faced criticism after calculating the worth of his ‘expensive’ outfit, claiming he bought it from the same place where artists like Burna Boy and Wizkid shop.
