Entertainment pundit and media personality Nana Romeo has described the recent #StopGalamsey protests as a waste of time.

The protests, which were organised by the Democracy Hub pressure group from September 21 to 23, 2024 in Accra resulted in the arrests of various individuals including social media influencer and activist, Ama Governor and walking artist Glenn Samm.

However, according to Nana Romeo, “the entire demonstration was a waste of time and energy; it won't yield any results.”

In his submission on UTV’s United Showbiz on September 28, 2024, Nana Romeo highlighted several issues with the protest, including the organisers' insistence on using a route that was not approved by the police.

"You went to the police to inform them of the protest, you gave them a route and the police told you that the route you used was not right. Yet you insisted on taking that route. The government is doing something you don't think is right. You want to give orders to the government yet you do not want to receive orders," Romeo remarked.

He argued that the protest organisers lacked the discipline necessary to achieve meaningful results.

Citing successful historical protests led by figures such as Rosa Parks, George Floyd, and Mahatma Gandhi, Nana Romeo stated that these protests brought about significant change because they were well-organised and understood the proper channels for effecting change.

Something, which, to him, was not present at the #StopGalamsey protest.

"You are doing a protest to call for a change in how things are done, but you don't even know how things are done. The protest was good, but the people who did it are not fit for it," he added.

Meanwhile, an Accra Circuit Court has remanded the protestors.

They have been slapped face five charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.
