Style, movies, history and more coming up on DStv

There is plenty fun and excitement for DStv audience across Africa this week and beyond. Check out some of the highlights from movies, series to documentaries and more.

The Amandas: Meet Amanda LaBlanc and her team of personal organisers. Alabama’s Amanda LeBlanc and her team of ultra-organisers transform chaotic spaces into stress-free oases. DStv audiences can tune into Style every Thursday from Monday 5 March at 22:10 CAT to watch various episodes including her team of perfectionistas transforming the lives of a family with four young boys in Birmingham, Alabama while having an open house for potential clients. Also The Amandas come to the rescue of a budding costume designer that can’t say no to glitter, beads, feathers and fabric. The result is material overload which keeps him from building his design business. In another episode, Amanda is desperate to find a nanny to help keep her balance between her family and work; and Amanda tries to fit in with other moms for the sake of her daughters.

The Kennedys: Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes star as President John F and Jackie Kennedy, in Stephen Kronish’s compelling drama series, charting the triumph and tragedy of the iconic first couple. The series starts on Election Day 1960, with charismatic Senator John F Kennedy pitted against Vice President Richard Nixon in the televised debates that would prove so crucial in winning the race to the White House. Through flashbacks to the 1930s and 1940s we see Joe Senior’s desire to be President, his thwarted ambition and his resolve to make sure eldest son Joe Jr realises his father’s dream of power. DStv audiences can tune into History from Tuesday 6 March at 20:30 CAT to watch as the drama relives the public and private joys and tragedies of the most influential family in the world including the fraternal rivalries, the mob associations, the drugs and the women. It recreates the political crisis that Kennedy dealt with in the early days of his presidency including the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war, and the Civil Rights Movement. Viewers will see every twist and turn of this clan’s extraordinary story up to and including the assassination of JFK and RFK.

Battle Los Angeles: A Marine Staff Sergeant who has just had his retirement approved goes back into the line of duty in order to assist a 2nd Lieutenant and his platoon as they fight to reclaim the city of Los Angeles from alien invaders. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net West on Saturday 3 March at 22:00 CAT to watch this drama starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan.

Red: Frank is retired, bored, lonely and living off his government pension in a nondescript suburb in an equally nondescript house. The only joys in Frank’s life are his calls to the government pension processing centre when he gets to talk to his case worker Sarah. Sarah is as bored and lonely as Frank and marks her conversations with the unknown Frank and her spy novels as the only things fun in her life. When something in Frank’s past forces Frank back into his old line of work and puts an unwitting Sarah in the middle of the intrigue, Frank and Sarah begin a journey into Franks past and the people he used to work with. Like Frank, they are all RED – Retired Extremely Dangerous. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net West on Saturday 4 March at 22:00 CAT to watch Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman in this movie.

The plump, sports-watching, poker-playing Doug is your average “dude” that viewers can all relate to. It takes a revealing look at the most popular designers and trends, the most exotic locations and themes, the most extravagant ceremonies and food lineups, and the most eclectic guest lists.
