Following his victory at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), Stonebwoy has addressed comments made by entertainment entrepreneur Baba Sadiq, who had favoured King Promise for the Artiste of the Year award.
In an interview on TV3 on 6th June 2024, Stonebwoy, who secured the Artiste of the Year title, suggested that the outcome of the awards had demonstrated the limited impact of Baba Sadiq's opinion.
According to Stonebwoy, he wasn't upset by Baba Sadiq's preference. He added that the outcome of the awards has served as a lesson that personal opinions do not always align with the collective decisions of the awards board.
“I was not disappointed. Eventually, I think the results have taught him that he does not hold any water when it comes to the reality and it stays as an opinion,” he said.
The TGMAs
The 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), which unfolded at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, was a night of celebration and recognition for the talent in the Ghanaian music scene.
The competition was fierce, but Stonebwoy stood out as the evening's top gainer, taking home a total of six awards, including the prestigious Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best International Collaboration, and Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year awards.
King Promise, another top contender, despite not clinching the Artiste of the Year title, was honoured with three awards, including the Afropop Song of the Year, Afrobeat/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.
