Ghanaian Afrobeats star King Promise has addressed concerns over his recent performance at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), which some critics described as subpar.
In an interview with YouTuber Kwadwo Sheldon, the ‘Terminator’ hitmaker said he and his team faced some unexpected challenges during the performance, including sound issues.
King Promise admitted that the performance was not one of his best, adding that despite extensive rehearsals, technical difficulties arose which affected the performance.
He stated that such experiences can happen to any performer, including global superstar Beyoncé, and that he was not bothered by it.
“I don't think it was one of my best performances. We put a lot of hard work in there. We had three nights of rehearsals.
“But obviously, there was a sound issue. I could barely hear myself while singing, and my microphone was also acting up. It was just a lot of things happening together. But these things do happen. I'm not the first one it should happen to. Even Beyoncé, the same thing happened to her,” he said.
Responding to the internet backlash, King Promise expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I feel like it's just people talking on the Internet. I don't think it dents my image. If I didn't know myself, I'd be bothered to that extent.”
He also dismissed allegations of sabotage, saying, “I don't even feed off all that energy. These things do happen.”
He explained that his focus remains on his music and the love he receives from his supporters.
