Renowned music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, aka Fredyma, has called on artistes to refrain from promoting their brands when on stage to receive awards.
Speaking on Accra-based Power FM, Fredyma cited cases where some artistes at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) were announcing their upcoming projects while on stage after being called up for an award.
He called on recipients of awards to keep their acceptance speeches brief and not use the platform for self-promotion.
He pointed out other award schemes in other countries, pointing out that producers often edit out unnecessary segments to maintain the show's pace and quality.
He stated that Ghana could apply such measures to improve the viewing experience for the audience of the TGMAs watching on TV.
“When they call you to receive an award, you don't have to promote your brand and tell them about your upcoming projects, just be as brief as possible.
“If you go outside, the producers cut up those unnecessary aspects of the show. If a performance isn't going well, they cut that part out immediately so those watching at home can't see.
“I think we should incorporate such in Ghana to remove such unnecessary parts,” he said.
