The expected cries, yells, excitement and the likes& when TV3, the first in news, the best in entertainment started the promo on Mentor, many were those who did not get the whole idea. It was such that a few applied to take part.
All and sundry saw the effect of the whole program when it took off. Those who thought they were too qualified than those participants bit their fingers as they could not fathom the whole scenario. Mentor 2 came, making it bigger and better with Tigo as the sponsors.
"We are going to make it different this time around. We are going to create characters and also ensure that it is international" this was what the Music Director for Mentor 3 Godwin Williams, summed it up when asked how different Mentor 3 was going to be.
Audition for Mentor 3 started on Wednesday March 14 for aspirants in the Greater Accra Region and over 800 people applied. 14 people were selected for the finals on the last day of the audition. The 14 selected, were screened to 7. It was difficult for the judges to choose the 3 finalist since all the 7 had the potential to represent the Region. The 7 finalists were asked to sing different kinds of songs and without microphone for the judges to know who had a powerful and strong voice.
Finally the three who scaled all odds to represent Greater Accra Region, Delali Fiah (Dela) 21, Eric Oduro (Eric), 22 and Timothy Fayiah Bomah (Faya) also 22 could not hide how happy they felt when they were pronounced the better amongst the rest. The production team as well as all concerned with Mentor 3 seems to have a different perspective for the program, aspiring it to be bigger and better than the first and second.
According to Lawrencia Duah, who was among the judges for the audition told this reporter that, an arduous task lies on the contestants of Mentor 3 considering the quality of contestants in Mentor 2. She was of the view that Mentor 3 looks more at exposing our traditional music in modernized form as well as sending a message home to viewers to appreciate the value of Ghanaian and African music. "We can also do R&B our way" Lawrencia added. The three selected best in the Greater Accra audition have completed their secondary school education and seem to have something doing.
Dela is a product of Mfantsiman Girls School and has been backing a band. Eric is a product of Odorgorno Secondary School and is practicing Sound Engineering and Timothy (Faya) a Liberian pleased the judges when he made a rendition of a Ga solo. He has promised to sing every local song he is supposed to sing to please the judges and viewers at large.
All the three contestants have promised to put in their best hence sending signals to all and sundry that Mentor 3 is going to be one of a kind. The search is on. Watch out for the Ashanti Region Audition.
