Cape Coast, Oct. 8, GNA- A circuit court at Cape Coast on Wednesday heard how a taxi driver who suspected that a suitcase he had been asked to convey was stolen and0 drove to the police at Cape Coast with the suspect.
Thomas Turkson a 23-year-old unemployed, who hired the taxi, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment for stealing personal effects belonging to one Madam Agnes Quartey and her two children at Pedu, a suburb of Cape Coast.
Turkson, an ex-convict, pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing. He will serve an additional year in prison if he fails to pay 1.3 million cedis being the total cost of the stolen items. Prosecuting inspector Hope Azasoo told the court, presided over by Mr Kwame Essel, that on September 29 this year, Turkson hired the taxi to convey a suitcase, but the driver drove straight to the police station when he suspected that his customer might be a thief.
Inspector Azasoo said Madam Quartey lodged a complaint that thieves had broken into her room at the Pedu estates and made away with a suitcase containing clothes and identified the suitcase as hers.
