Terry's Car Was Not Insured

Following the death of the renowned hiplife warrior, Terry Adjetey, known among his fans as Terry Bonchaka, The Mirror interviewed Ekow Daniels, a car registration agent at the Licensing Office in Accra who facilitated the registration of Terry’s car.

He revealed that the car, which was registered a day before Terry’s death as GW 3374 U, did not have an insurance cover but was to have been insured some time this week.

Mr Ekow Daniels said Terry’s car was officially registered on Wednesday, October 29, adding, “I tested the car and handed it over to him on Thursday evening, October 30. “I had detected that the car was shaking and skidding when driven at a higher speed so I told Terry about it and he said he was going for a show and would let his mechanic rectify the problem the next day”.

According to Ekow, the car which is a 1970s Morris with an Opel Kadett engine, had gone through several “body works” and maintenance to keep it on the road. Ekow explained that he had known Terry for just over two months through a friend who brought Terry for him to be assisted to process the documents covering his new car.

“Terry was very eager to use the car so he pressured me to work on it as quickly as possible so that he could use it for his shows. On the evening of Thursday, October 30, he came to pick up his registered car from my house and I was informed the next morning that he had been involved in an accident”, he said.

Ekow said he had decorated the car with Terry’s famous “puulele” on the front of the number plate and written Terry’s name at the back. He said.

“I’m sure he was planning to bring the car on stage one of these days but fate did not allow that”, he concluded. Terry was involved in a motor accident in the early hours of Friday, October 31, when he was returning from a performance at the Akuafo Hall, University of Ghana. The fatal accident occurred on the Legon-Tetteh Quarshie Circle Road when his vehicle skidded off the road and hit a tree.

Terry’s demise has come in the wake of several motor accidents that have claimed the lives of some prominent personalities, including the president of the National Union of Ghana Students, Prince Adams, who died barely a month after his election
