Renowned Ghanaian Highlife musician Rex Omar has expressed strong criticism of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government's handling of the country's finances and infrastructure development.

In an interview on 3FM on June 20, Rex Omar lamented the poor state of the country’s roads, which he said has hindered his love for travelling and driving.

"I like travelling and I like driving. I just create a trip for myself and I just drive. And I'm a fast driver unfortunately, our roads are not good," he said.

Commenting on the NPP's governance, Rex Omar acknowledged their skill in creating slogans but said they did not have any achievement to show for it.

"The NPP, they are very good at sloganeering. I'll give it to them. They have a lot of powerful slogans but nothing to write home about," he stated.

He also pointed out the significant increase in the national debt under the current administration and questioned where there is a lack of visible infrastructure development despite the extensive borrowing.

"Since independence. Right from Nkrumah's time to 2016 Mahama's time, Ghana had a debt portfolio of GH¢120 billion. Within seven and a half years, this government has borrowed over GH¢500 billion.

"If you add to the already existing GH¢120 billion, it’s up to GH¢700 billion. I ask myself, what have these people used the money for?" he questioned.

"I want to see one visible infrastructure that I can see. I've travelled around the country but I can't see any," he lamented.
