Ingredients:
5 tbsp. gari
2 tbsp. powdered milk
2 tsp. sugar
Peanuts
Cold water
Serving: 1 person
Preparation time: 2 minutes
Gari is cassava flakes; the process of turning cassava into gari is a little bit cumbersome, but you can always purchase gari from most African shops.
It comes in two colors: white or yellow.
When you combine gari, milk, sugar, groundnuts, and water, it becomes a drink in West Africa.
When you pour hot water over gari, it becomes a swallow (eba), served with soup.
In this case, however, we are just making soaked gari.
Step 1: Add a cup of water. Add enough water because gari will definitely absorb a lot of it, and stir.
Step 2:
Add milk, groundnuts (peanuts), and sugar to taste. Stir, add more peanuts, and serve.
We serve soaked gari as an appetizer, sometimes paired with other foods like porridge beans or moi-moi, and serve it as dinner or breakfast.
