Celebrity blogger Kobby Kyei has disclosed the lengths he went to in order to meet his idol, renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie.

Speaking on The Delay Show aired on June 29, 2024, the renowned blogger unveiled a tale of obsession, manoeuvring, and an audacious lie that ultimately brought him face-to-face with his hero.

Kobby Kyei, who had been an ardent admirer of Sarkodie since his university days at the University of Education, Winneba, shared that his initial attempts to get close to the rapper were fraught with challenges.

"I've met Sarkodie before but prior to that, it was difficult getting close to him just like any normal fan who admired someone from afar. Mine was a bit crazy because I loved him so much. I was obsessed," Kobby recounted.

In 2010, a friend advised him to join Facebook and other social media platforms to follow Sarkodie's activities. This marked the beginning of Kobby's determined pursuit. His first in-person encounter with Sarkodie occurred in 2012 at the Greenland Hotel in Agona Swedru, where Sarkodie was scheduled to perform. It was here that Kobby's ingenuity came to the fore.

Kobby, then a student, bore a striking resemblance to Sarkodie, thanks to his beard and spectacles. According to him, he seized the opportunity and approached the stage setup crew.

"I heard some of them say I resemble Sarkodie so I’m part of the team. So I told them Sarkodie didn’t like the speakers they were using; they should change the monitors. So, in their minds, I’m part of Sarkodie’s team," Kobby explained.

When Sarkodie's managers, Sammy Forson and AngelTown, arrived, Kobby introduced himself as part of the local organizing team.

"When the show began, they had sacked everyone from the stage except me. In the minds of the Swedru folks, I’m with Sarkodie’s team and in the minds of Sarkodie’s team, I’m with the organizers," Kobby said.

He added that his lie culminated in a photo with Sarkodie on stage. However, when he shared the picture on Facebook, sceptics dismissed it as a photoshop job.

But Kobby's dream came true when Sarkodie recorded a song for his fans and mentioned Kobby first. "That was a great moment. I’d have died if he hadn’t mentioned me. I was so happy. God bless him," Kobby said, brimming with gratitude.
