2015 VGMA Artiste of the Year, Stonebwoy Burniton has recalled the many “setbacks” that threatened his career and his quest to see his dreams come true as an artiste of “excellence”.
“The setbacks are numerous and obvious. Ghana can see it…but I am too energetic to be held back.”
The ‘Baafira’ hitmaker who was adjudged the Artiste of the Year at the 16th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards told Bola Ray on Monday, he was overwhelmed by the love Ghanaians showed him on the night of the awards. .
Speaking via phone to the Starr Drive host on the Entertainment News segment on Starr 103.5FM, Stonebwoy said he sees the recognition as an opportunity for him to get better at his skill.
“When I saw the love, I was taken aback in a positive way. This means I have to put in much more efforts and make us all proud.
“…There hasn’t been that much love ever and even if there has been, mine has been a notch higher. So that as soon as I was called everyone from Abeiku Santana, Efia Schwarzenegger and everyone just got up. It is humbling,” he added.
Ahead of his national recognition, Stonebwoy said he suffered a deadly accident on the Accra-Tema motorway which left his right leg visibly dislocated.
He told Bola Ray, one of the reasons he is who he is now is the fact that he wouldn't allow offsetting events to deter him from working “hard” to see his dreams come true.
“My biggest inspiration is to rise from what happened to me and that has been the same energy behind my voice and all that….An accident on the motorway. That same motorway that has killed people but I am here. So if I am still alive, why not?
“I had no one to lean on but I needed people to believe in me and know I can do it and thank God today I have a nation behind me”.
Stonebwoy thanked Samini and other artistes who have impacted his career positively.
“It’s an honour that I am living this big dream in my very small way,” he concluded.
