Prophet Moses Bennison, of Family Alter Ministries, has revealed that marriages between people of different backgrounds have a greater chance of collapsing compared to those of the same cultural background.

Explaining his stance, the clergyman shared that a report he read showed that while marriages in general have a 31% chance of breaking up, cross-cultural marriages have a 41% chance of collapsing.

“According to the statistics, they said most marriages end at 31%, but when it comes to cross-cultural marriages, there is about a 41% chance. So, there’s a 10% higher chance that cross-cultural marriages would break up or divorce once it is cross-cultural,” Prophet Bennison said in a conversation on the Prime Morning show.

He added that the statistics do not mean that marriages between cross-cultural partners are not advisable; rather, it means that partners in such relationships must work harder to ensure their marriage stands.

He said, “What that means is that in cross-cultural marriages, there is a little more work to be done to see to it that the relationship works and is firm.”

Data from Ghana's 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) indicates that a significant 553,065 individuals have undergone divorce, while another 405,090 have gone through separation.


These statistics were gathered during interviews conducted throughout the duration of the 2021 PHC, which commenced on June 27 and concluded on August 15 of the same year.
