Up-and-coming Ghanaian diminutive actor Nii Nortey has voiced his frustration with the Ghanaian film industry over the typecasting of diminutive actors in movies.

In an interview with Berla Mundi on The Day Show, Nii Nortey narrated some challenges he and other diminutive actors usually face.

He expressed his desire to take on a wider variety of roles, believing that he can perform efficiently in other roles beyond the stereotypical ones he is usually given.

"They will use you as a demon and dwarf, but it isn’t supposed to be so because you can give me another role where I can fit and act perfectly, but they will always ask you to act as a demon," he stated.

Despite his frustrations, Nii Nortey said he remains hopeful that the industry will change and provide more varied opportunities for actors like him.

"I do it because I believe that at a point in time, I will not be acting as a demon, and I will stand up to advocate for other roles where I can perform perfectly," he added.

He emphasised the need for diminutive actors to unite with a common goal of changing their roles and showcasing their inherent talents.

"We must come together with a similar objective that we want to change our roles and showcase our inherent talent and tell the directors we want to show our inner talents," he added.

He appealed to producers and directors to allow diminutive actors to showcase their talents in diverse roles.
