Third edition of gospel music awards launched

Kumasi, May 23, GNA- Contemporary gospel musicians last Friday treated music enthusiasts to superb songs at the official launch of the third edition of the Ghana Gospel Music awards at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi.

For about three hours, Noble Nketia, Elder Mireku, Prophet Seth Frimpong, Lady Prempeh, Moses O.K., Sandra Oduro, Kwaku Gyasi, Edward Akwasi Boateng, among others took turns to give the audience a rendition of some of their hit songs, at the programme that was held on the theme, "Sing Unto The Lord A New Song".

The awards, dubbed the 'Ghana Gospel Music Awards 2004" and slated for the latter part of this year, seek to acknowledge and honour gospel musicians who would excel in 22 categories.

Madam Demay Ackah-Yensu, Director of the programme, said the awards that was being organised by 'S and S' Media Concepts would include added categories to encourage musicians to widen their scope of operations. She said: "It is also our desire to intensify the spread of gospel through music and help support gospel musicians in the country". The categories for the awards include best female voice and best male voice, most inspiring lyrics, best praise song, best worship song, best acapella group, new artiste of the year, discovery of the year and best music video.
