Three Men Claim Responsibility For Pregnancy

Techiman (B/A), May 7, GNA- A circuit court at Techiman presided by Mr Justice Erasmus Gyinae on Tuesday heard the case of three men who are each claiming to be the husband of a pregnant woman at Fiaso, near Techiman in Brong Ahafo.

They are Yahaya Sissala, Hardi Tuniya and Amadu Barninie, all farmers at Fiaso.

Hardi Tuniya has filed a civil suit against Amadu Barninie Claiming that he was illegally living with his wife, Ajara, whom he married according to Sissala custom.

He told the court that he brought the wife from Obuasi to Fiaso but following a misunderstanding between them she left for her father's house.

Hardi said he later found that Ajara was frequenting Amadu's house in the night. Hardi said further investigations showed that his wife, who was about three months pregnant, had almost become married to Amadu so he lodged a complaint before the Sissala Chief at Techiman.

The Sissala Chief invited Amadu to appear before a panel for settlement but he failed to turn up, and was found liable by the panel when he reported later.

The panel awarded 350,000 cedis cost against him and was asked to provide two hens, two goats and two bottles of local gin, but Amadu refused to pay the fine.

Hardi said Amadu was still with his pregnant wife and had even taken her to the northern part of the country.

In defence, Amadu denied that Hardi ever brought the woman from Obuasi, saying it was Yahaya Sissala who brought her to Techiman and that Hardi rather snatched her from Sissala.

He said Hardi had never performed any marriage rites and that was why he also got interested in her for marriage.

The court adjourned the matter to next month.
