Veteran television star Grace Omaboe, known in showbiz as Maame Dokono in 2008 debunked claims of being a “cocaine dealer” as speculated by members of her former party, the NDC. According to Grace Omaboe, the NDC on their campaign platform in the run up to the 2008 elections claimed that she had been arrested in South Africa on drug offence.
Maame Dokono had joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to declare her full support for Nana Akufo-Addo after parting ways with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Her move did not go well with the NDC who felt betrayed by her decision to join their main opposition party. Maame Dokono revealed that she was never in South Africa as speculated by the NDC.

Madam Grace Omaboe popularly known as Maame Dokono has denied rumours that she was involved in a narcotics transaction in South Africa.
Speaking on Peace FM’s programme “Kokrokoo” this morning, Maame Dokono said there is no truth in the rumours making rounds.
“I have never in my life travelled to South Africa. I have always wished to travel to South Africa because I hear it is one of the most beautiful countries in Africa, but as I speak to you now, I have never been to South African.
”Kwame I know you are an accomplished journalist so you can cross check from the South African embassy to find out if my name is in their books,” Madam Omaboe stated.
According to Maame Dokono she first heard about this rumour from a friend who called and informed her that her name has been mentioned on an NDC campaign platform that she (Maame Dokono) has been arrested in South Africa on drug offence.
She said she did not take the rumour serious until recently when a lot of people kept calling her, repeating the same allegations.
“So I had to tell Nana Akufo-Addo and President Kufuor yesterday, during the NPP rally.”
The former NDC parliamentary aspirant who has defected to NPP recalled that the last time she travelled beyond the shores of Ghana was in May, when she travelled to Germany and Holland.
She emphasized that since then, she has devoted herself to Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign to make sure Nana Addo wins the presidency. “I have not gone anywhere and I don’t do cocaine business. They are all lies”.
