Afrobeats singer, Omah Lay, has lamented the quality of songs being produced currently by top Afrobeats artistes.
Omah Lay claims that many singers who claim to be Afrobeats stars are only focused on making money and not on producing good music.
He raised concerns about the infiltration of the South African genre, Amapiano, into Afrobeats.
Lamenting, Omah Lay said, “I don’t think I am happy with what the pioneers of Afrobeats are doing right now. The front guys are watering it down by just chasing the bags.
“I can’t remember the last time I heard a proper Afrobeats song. It’s now Amapiano in Afrobeats clubs, not a proper Afrobeats song.”
The ‘Soso’ crooner also accused his colleagues from Nigeria and other countries of copying his style of music.
According to him, he started a new sound of Afrobeats that many of his colleagues are now imitating.
Speaking in a recent interview with Billboard, Omah Lay said, “The artistes coming out from Nigeria right now, not just Nigeria but afrobeats in general are taking a bit of my stuff, the stuff I started; everybody tryna copy something.”
