Ghana’s movie industry was nearly struck by sad news last Saturday when Helen Asante, the young actress who played Nadia Buari’s kid sister in the hit movie, ‘Sin of The Soul’, almost met her untimely death after she was attacked by an unknown assailant.
This incident took place at about 8.00pm that fateful night at Taifa, a suburb of Accra, while she was waiting for a Taxi cab on her Junction to Golden Tulip Hotel for a program, NEWS-ONE sources confirmed.
The assailant, who was described as a dark, thick-tall man reeking of alcohol, allegedly came out of nowhere to give the slim actress a dirty slap from behind and started beating her up till people in the area came to her rescue.
The assailant would not talk to anybody about his reasons for violently attacking the actress. Even though some on-lookers came to Helen’s rescue, her attacker was allowed to walk away.
Eye witnesses said the assailant, who appeared drunk had a butcher knife and screw driver in his pocket and could have murdered the young lady if people had not come to her aid. She, in the course of the attack, sustained bruises under her thigh which hit the edge of a concrete gutter.
Meanwhile, the actress claims she did know her attacker. Confirming the incident, Dr. John Yaw Antwi, Senior Medical Officer at the La General Hospital, in his report stated among other things: “She appears emotionally traumatized”.
Helen has since reported the case to the Mile 7 Police in Achimota. NEWS-ONE gathered that investigations are still ongoing. The actress, who is otherwise called ‘Cutie’, was last week in the news over an allege sabotage case involving her and fellow actress Martha Ankomah.
Helen was mad at insinuations that she allegedly masterminding a ploy against fellow actress Martha Ankomah, at the just-ended African Movie Academy Awards. At the awards night held in Nigeria’s Bayelsa State recently, Martha, who was nominated for the ‘Promising Actress of the Year’ for her role in the ‘Sin of the Soul’, had her picture replaced with that of Helen in the montage for the category.
The development did not go down well with Martha, provoking her to exclaim: “This is not fair. This is not me. Why?” Accusing fingers were pointed at Helen with people castigating her management for allegedly being behind the plot.
But in a sharp response, Helen said she was disappointed in those accusing her of sabotage.
